Ausherman Family Foundation Trustees Kari Browning and Nick Branic have a passion for the Frederick Police Activities League (PAL) and their mission. Students participate in recreational activities to create relationships with community members and police officers while also keeping them off the street. The trustees saw the need to expand the variety of activities and add a new, fun activity for the students. They designated $5,000 of their trustee directed grants to enable PAL to create a new rock climbing wall for the students to enjoy. Kari recently visited PAL and had the opportunity to climb the new wall with some of the students!

The Frederick Police Activities League’s mission is through positive interactions with police officers, youth will become responsible, contributing members of their community. PAL is based on the strong belief that children who are reached early enough can develop a healthy, positive attitude toward police officers in their journey through life toward adulthood and good citizenship.

PAL serves youth between the ages of eight and eighteen and is a positive and educational alternative to gangs, drugs, criminal and other anti-social behavior. They utilize sports, educational and recreational activities in a healthy, structured, safe, and fun environment. The program offers a computer lab, homework assistance, math and reading clubs, karate, soccer, and more.
The program is offered free of charge by police officers and community volunteers, providing opportunities for youth that they may not normally have due to family financial constraints such as transportation for field trips, school activities, special events, karate classes, and more.
