“Being on the Frederick Youth Council has been an incredible opportunity that I would not trade for the world,” comments Brooke Lieberman, inaugural Chair of the Frederick Youth Council. She has served on Frederick’s first county-wide Youth Council since the beginning of 2024, and her term along with several others on the Youth Council is coming to an end.
The Frederick Youth Council was first launched in 2024 as a body meant to represent youth and uplift youth voice. In its first year, the Youth Council seated 15 young community members ages 12 through 24 from across the County. This diverse body of youth paved the path and engaged in community events, facilitated convenings with youth, met with political officials, advocated for youth needs, and most importantly helped to advise the planning for the future youth center, located at 300 Scotty’s Bus Lane.
The Youth Council is inviting youth from the community to submit an application to join the Youth Council! To be eligible for the Youth Council, you must:
- Be between the ages of 12 through 24
- Live in Frederick County
- Be able to attend one monthly meeting on the third Tuesday of every month
An extra benefit is that those who join the Youth Council are paid a monthly stipend, so long as they attend the monthly meeting. If you know or are a youth, please apply. Applications are due July 13!
