Ausherman Family Foundation Announces 2026 Professional Development Training Series

There are many learning and leadership opportunities in Frederick.  The Frederick Nonprofit Summit is an anchor to many other educational opportunities, including the 2026 Professional Development Training Series.  These four in-person workshops, at Frederick Community College, are designed to strengthen the capacity of nonprofit leaders, staff, and volunteers. Each session will be facilitated by experienced nonprofit consultant Michelle Nusum-Smith.

These interactive trainings will provide practical tools, expert insights, and real-world strategies to help organizations grow their impact and operate more effectively.

The 2026 training lineup includes:

  • Grant Writing and Fundraising Strategies
    Tuesday, March 3 at 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
    Participants will learn how to identify the right grant opportunities, craft compelling proposals, and develop strategic fundraising plans. The workshop will also cover building strong relationships with funders and creating narratives that stand out to reviewers.

  • Board Member Recruitment and Orientation
    Saturday, May 2 at 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
    This session will guide organizations in building engaged and effective boards. Attendees will explore strategies to recruit diverse talent, strengthen board orientation processes, and foster a culture of accountability and alignment.

  • Nonprofit Budgeting and Financial Management
    Tuesday, September 8 at 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
    Designed for those looking to build financial confidence, this workshop will cover how to interpret financial reports, create mission-aligned budgets, manage cash flow, and communicate financial information clearly to stakeholders.

  • Nonprofit Marketing & Communications
    Saturday, November 7 at 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
    Participants will learn how to develop a cohesive communications strategy, craft compelling stories, and effectively use digital tools such as social media, email, and websites to engage supporters and inspire action.
