Accepting Proposals for Kinetic Wind Art Sculpture on Carroll Creek

Carroll Creek

Ausherman Family Foundation (“AFF”), in collaboration with Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, is requesting proposals for a site-specific commission for kinetic wind art. The sculpture will be displayed in the middle of Carroll Creek beginning in early spring for 2 to 8 months.

Carroll Creek is a 40-foot-wide, 1.3-mile channel waterway with brick pedestrian paths, water features, pedestrian bridges, landscaping, fountains, and a 350-seat-amphitheater. In 2012, Dr. Pete Kremers and Lisa Collins, dedicated community-conscious Frederick residents, founded Color on the Creek. This not-for-profit organization aims to solve the algae problem by positioning aquatic plants along Carroll Creek. Over the past seven years, it has been transformed into a beautiful aquatic garden that Frederick residents and tourists are able to enjoy every year from late May through early November.  Carroll Creek has become one of the County’s top destinations for tourists running through/in the heart of downtown Frederick.

Bernard Gouin, Member of the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, and Chair of the Carroll Creek Committee shared, “Since its inception in 1993 and inherent to its mission, the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek has committed treasury and countless volunteer-hours towards Carroll Creek. Managing the Carroll Creek Kinetic Art Promenade is a natural evolution for our Club, and another way for us to keep contributing towards the vitality of Downtown Frederick”.

AFF’s goal is to help catalyze this initiative, attracting sponsors for additional sculptures down the Creek and further beautifying downtown Frederick. Future intent is to have numerous rotating pieces.

Proposals from artists living within 80 miles of Frederick will be accepted by the Ausherman Family Foundation through August 16th at 5:00 pm. Individual artists or collaborative teams are welcome to apply. For more details and requirements, visit aushermanfamilyfoundation.org/arts or contact Leigh Adams at gro.namrehsua@smadal.
